In 2004, co-founder Shannon Bopp, attended a Sunday morning church service in California and the speaker began talking about the evils in this world. The speaker began talking about human trafficking and told stories of under age girls that were being severely abused all over the world. Shannon felt the Holy Spirit speak to his heart and say, “you need to do something about fighting this evil”. Out of that moment, several years later Broken Chains was founded. Combined with Josh Conley’s heart to use the local church in this endeavor the two bought airfare to Costa Rica and began to seek where God desired to use them. After 7 years of seeking God direction, purchasing property, building a church building with a feeding center, and building relationships with some local Ticos we now have a church, a feeding program for children, a KidzCare program that specifically meets the needs of single moms to provide for their children and raising funds for a safe house for victims of human trafficking. We partner with Face of Justice that founded the safe house. Together with both ministries we serve approximately 100 children every week.
